Revisiting the news--

I recently remembered a link that was shared with me during my first year in SLIS. It is similar to the visual PDF that Sarah included in Module 8, which depicts just how involved news corporations are with major companies (and other agendas!):

Be sure to check out the Walt Disney Corporation...

  1. Very interesting! Do you have a sense for how current this info is? Thanks for posting it!

  2. No problem! The Columbia Journalism Review indicates when they update the company information by adding when the page was last updated on the bottom of each corporation page. For example, the information about CBS was updated August 2010.

  3. Whoa! Disney is as bad as the rest! Question though, where does Fox fit into all this? Are they not their own corporation (forgive my ignorance!)?

  4. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 removed the limits on how many radio stations one company could own. Ironically, this bill was passed with the promise that it would foster diversity of viewpoints, greater variety of programming, and lower costs to consumers.
